Hello art lovers

Hi all,

I’m Mark, owner of Pop Art Is Dead (weird name for an art business that takes a tonne of inspiration from Pop Art, right?).

I have been creating art all my life in some form or another. In high school I loved trying out as many weird mark-making materials as possible. I never had money for materials as a kid, and tried making my own charcoal for drawing after the one piece a yr 8 teacher gave me was all used up.

Oil paint was hard to come by at school, but I for my hands on some oil paint sticks and loved using industrial markers to draw with and play around with how they interact with different types of thinners and petro chemicals like turpentine, until…spraypaint entered my world.

When I finished high school in the early 90’s I didn’t get a normal job or pursue formal study, somewhat naively,I did anything I could to keep making art. I painted murals, worked on art projects across Queensland and developed my facilitation skills as a community artist.

I did eventually pay my way through university, and worked in advertising, lost interest in selling chocolates, soft drinks and other stuff to kids, and retreated to the safety of Public Service. At the same time I returned to mural painting in the evening and weekends to support my small family.

Across many career changes, including becoming a formally qualified career consultant (check out my other business Volchemy Careers) I have continued to paint, exhibit, and apply my creative thinking and visual skills in a variety of ways.

Pop Art is Dead is the place to share and provide access to art and creative ideas more broadly.

So welcome to my site, please take a look around and feel free to contact me with any questions or enquiries.

Make something awesome – Mark
