Not all murals or street art turn out the way the person commissioning the work hopes.
Due, in part, to the massive popularity of street art, it has attracted many artists from other disciplines or inexperienced painters who often over-promise and underdeliver.
This may have been what happened in this instance.
Street Art murals on your home should make you feel proud, not embarrassed.
The property owner had seen photos of a Heath Ledger tribute, painted in Hosier Lane, on a section with proportions that matched their garage door and went about looking for someone to recreate the same image.
After finding the cheapest artist possible, they weren’t very happy with the result. Though I wanted to help the property owner, I was reluctant to “tinker” with someone else’s work. However, once I saw the painting in real life and could see the distress it caused the owner, I stepped in to touch up the work. Though the proportions of the image were a bit “out-of-whack” I agreed to work on the original painting to try to keep some of the first artist’s work intact and just reshape it a bit to bring in a little more depth.
A few years later, they had to replace the roller door, and I had the chance to recreate the work from scratch, improving it’s poroportions to be more accurate and design a better placement on the surface…I’ll dig around for a photo of that image sometime.
If you’ve ever considered painting a tribute to your favourite musician, actor or sporting hero, shoot me a message, and I’ll see how I can help, or check back later. Around Mach/April 2026, I will have a free Ready to Paint mural quote calculator up and running with images like this to pick from.
